A penguin-like robot named “Milton” is being tested in a hospital in the UK. Using the same technology as driverless vehicles, the robot carries drugs as part of the new trial. It is thought that the use of this and such robots could help relieve pressure on staff.

Robots are becoming a part of our lives now and it seems they could soon be our saviors too. A robot is being used to transport and deliver prescriptions and other items at Milton Keynes University Hospital in the United Kingdom, the British Daily Mail reported. This robot, which is regarded as a ‘healer’ robot because it carries medicine, helps to reduce the pressure on human personnel.

It is said that next year, the robot will start distributing drugs on certain routes to assist staff.

The trial aims to reduce the amount of time hospitalized patients spend waiting for their medication.

It is stated that the feedback from the trial will be used to decide whether it can be applied to other hospitals around the country.

The robot, known as Milton, is likely to be sent to other hospitals in 2023. But before this potential possibility, the robot is being trialled at the hospital in question. The robot can go from point A to point B in the hospital.

Produced by the British Academy of Robotics, the robot, which resembles a penguin with its design, uses sonar and LiDAR technology to avoid getting caught in people, wheelchairs, beds and other obstacles, just like driverless vehicles.

It is stated that the feedback from the trial will be used to decide whether it can be applied to other hospitals around the country.
